If a number looks wrong

This is the message we most want to receive. To make it actionable, include:

the page it is on
the exact figure the calculator gave you
the inputs you entered
what you believe it should be, and where that comes from — your inspector, a code section, a supplier spec sheet

Structural corrections get looked at the same week. If we got something wrong, we fix it and say so on the methodology page.

If you want a calculator that does not exist

Tell us the question you were trying to answer, not the tool you think you need. "How do I work out whether my deck will take a hot tub" is more useful to us than "you should add a hot tub calculator", because the first one tells us what the answer has to contain.

What we cannot do

We cannot design your deck, review your plans, or tell you whether a specific structure is safe. Nobody can do that from a description, and anyone offering to should be treated with suspicion. For a real answer about a real deck you need someone standing on it — a licensed engineer, a structural inspector, or your local building official.

We also cannot tell you what your local code requires. Codes are adopted and amended jurisdiction by jurisdiction, and your building department is the only authority on yours. They are, in our experience, far more helpful than people expect.
